Common Questions
Carpet installation at H&T Carpet Floors starts at $2.49 per square foot installed, which includes the carpet, standard 8-pound pad, tack strip, and labor. A typical 12x15 bedroom runs around $450 to $700 depending on the carpet line you choose. We carry Shaw, Mohawk, and Stainmaster, and prices climb when you move into stain-resistant pet-friendly fibers, upgraded memory-foam pads, or patterned Berbers. The honest way to get a real number is a free in-home measure. Tojo will walk the rooms, show you samples in your actual lighting, and write a flat quote you can hold us to. No pressure, no surprise add-ons on install day.
Our LVP installations start at $3.49 per square foot installed. That covers the planks, underlayment when the product calls for it, transitions, and labor. We install COREtec, Shaw, and Mohawk LVP lines, and the per-foot price moves with plank thickness, wear-layer mil rating, and whether you want a premium look like wide-plank European oak or stone-look tile. A 200-square-foot kitchen typically lands between $700 and $1,400 fully installed. If your subfloor needs leveling or old tile demo, we price that separately so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Hardwood starts at $5.99 per square foot installed at our Ypsilanti showroom. Solid oak and engineered hardwood from Bruce, Shaw, and Mohawk make up most of what we sell, and the price depends on species, plank width, and finish. Wider planks and hand-scraped finishes run higher. A 300-square-foot living room in mid-grade engineered oak typically runs $2,400 to $3,200 installed. If you have existing hardwood that needs refinishing instead of replacing, we will tell you straight whether sanding and recoating makes more sense than a full tear-out. We have been doing this since 2004 and would rather save you money than sell you floor you do not need.
Five things move the number: square footage, the product line you pick, subfloor condition, demo and haul-away, and any finish work like quarter-round, transitions, or stair noses. Stairs are priced per tread because they take real time to wrap. On bathroom and kitchen remodels, plumbing relocations, electrical changes, and countertop edge profiles also affect the total. We give you an itemized written estimate so you can see each line. If you want to trim cost, we will show you which line items are flexible and which ones we will not cut corners on.
Yes, get two or three quotes. We encourage it. Just make sure you are comparing the same scope. Big-box stores often quote a teaser price that excludes pad upgrade, furniture moving, old carpet haul-away, transitions, or stair labor, so the final invoice climbs. Ask every contractor for an itemized quote with the exact product name, square footage, pad spec, and what is included in labor. We write ours that way on purpose. When you put our quote next to a national chain, customers usually find we are competitive on price and clearer on what you actually get.
Call (734) 484-9962 or stop by the showroom at 1938 Whittaker Rd in Ypsilanti and we will set a time that fits your schedule, including evenings and Saturdays. Tojo or one of our estimators comes to your home, measures every room with a laser, looks at the subfloor and transitions, and brings sample books so you can see colors in your own light. Most visits take 30 to 45 minutes. You get a written quote either on the spot or emailed within 24 hours. There is no fee, no deposit to hold the quote, and no high-pressure pitch. If you want to think it over for a week, that is fine.
